PMI Nashville June 2019 luncheon – Beating the Odds by Working Together

Developing Housing CEOs to dramatically improve the living and learning spaces in aging infrastructures when you have limited resources. Overcoming budget cuts to deliver customer satisfaction to your residents. Using Pareto Charts to determine the scope and set the priorities. Building relationships that drive service level improvements. Changing the culture through crucial conversations. Reducing open work orders by 80 percent over two years. Learning Outcomes: 1. The participant will learn strategies to assess facility work order backlog. 2. The participant will learn how to prioritize work to be completed given limited funding. 3. The participant will understand the need for stakeholder meetings to drive work order and project completion.
Latane Brackett, CEFP, Executive Director for Student Affairs Facilities, Operations, and Student Development, Tennessee State University and Brent Dukhie, Interim Executive Director for Residence Life and Housing, Tennessee State University
Latane Brackett is a native of Norfolk, Virginia. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Electronics Engineering at Norfolk State University in 1990 were he was a DNIMAS Scholar. He received his Master of Business Administration at Texas A & M Commerce in 2003. He is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Educational Leadership Degree at Tennessee State University. Mr. Brackett has worked as a corporate engineer, maintenance manager, plant technical manager, plant manager, director of operations, and vice president of supply chain and operations. He is currently the Executive Director of Facilities and Operations for Tennessee State University’s Division of Student Affairs where he has the opportunity to impact the lives of the next generation of leaders. His responsibilities include facilities, capital improvements, operations, and student development.
Mr. Brackett is the author of three books on leadership: As I See It, Where are all the Leaders, and Can I Just Tell the Truth. He is also a Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 31 Certified Mediator, Certified Educational Facilities Professional, Authorized OSHA Trainer, Specialist in Safety in Health, APPA Customized Interactive Learning Facilitator and a core member of the TSU-HBCU-C2 Training Team. Brent Dukhie is a native of Trinidad and Tobago. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration at Concordia College-Selma in May 2003 and graduated with a M.ED in the Administration and Supervision program at Tennessee State University in December 2014. Mr. Dukhie has worked as a Housing Director, International Student Admission officer, Assistant Track coach, Interim Assistant Athletic Director, and Men’s Soccer Coach during the four years he was at Concordia College-Alabama. As the Soccer Coach at Concordia he was able to take his team to the USCAA national championship tournament in 2007-2010 and in 2009 led his team to winning the championship. Mr. Dukhie joined Tennessee State University’s Department of Residence Life staff in August of 2011. He started as the Director of Harriet Hodgkins-Hale Residence Center, which is the honors hall and the only co-ed hall on the campus and in January 2013 moved up as the Area Coordinator over four halls. In September 2014 he was promoted to the Assistant Director of Residence Life and currently holds the position of Interim Executive Director of Residence Life and Housing. Mr. Dukhie is fully committed to helping students navigate matriculate through college and guiding them to become the best person they can. His motto is to “Believe in Believing”.
